Back To The Future Bags

Today I went to see Back to the Future at the theater where it is playing for limited engagements in honor of its 25th anniversary. I never noticed before how many bags appear in the movie – from Marty McFly’s backpack to Jennifer Parker’s shoulder bag to Lorraine Baines’ purse. That got me wondering if I could find similar bags on eBags. Sure enough, I found suitable look alikes for the Back to the Future bags.

Marty McFly’s Backpack: One of the more famous scenes in the beginning of the movie is when Marty rides his skateboard to school, hanging onto the backs of cars along the way. You might notice that he also wears a red backpack with a leather-looking bottom. It sure looks a lot like the JanSport Right Pack although the backpack brand is obscured. The JanSport Right Pack is available in red and does have a suede leather bottom. It makes a great school backpack because of its large main compartment while the front utility pocket with organizer helps keep essentials handy, including keys to a new Toyota pickup. Jennifer Parker’s Shoulder Bag: She may only be at the beginning and end of the movie, but that’s long enough to catch a glimpse of Jennifer Parker’s shoulder bag. It’s a small, white bag on a long shoulder strap with flap over closure and it’s very similar to the Osgoode Marley Kate Flap bag. This bag is made from leather so soft it’s no wonder it’s called Cashmere leather. Hidden magnetic closure and interior zipper closure keep your items secure even when racing off to save your children. It’s available in 5 colors including Linen (pictured here). Lorraine Baines’ Purse: The Lorraine Baines of 1955 appears in several outfits, but it’s when she wears her blue blouse at school that she carries a unique looking purse that’s sort of a cross between a small bowler and a cosmetic bag. While I couldn’t find an exact match for this bag, the Piel Purse with Front Pocket in Pastel Blue is close. This small leather bag features zip top entry, double shoulder straps, and multiple pockets for great organization including a cell phone pocket – certainly an extra not available in 1955. George McFly’s Portfolio: No it’s not a briefcase, but rather a portfolio that George carries. You can see it most clearly when he runs away from Marty on his way home asking why Marty is following him. It’s a very simple case similar to the Royce Leather Zip Around Binder Portfolio. Made from top grain nappa cowhide, this case has retractable handles, multiple interior pockets, a 3 ring binder, and a padholder. It’s the perfect business partner and great for writers (of science fiction and more). Doc Brown’s Luggage: You might be asking yourself, where was Doc Brown’s Luggage? Well, you can see it right before Einstein alerts Doc and Marty that the Libyan’s are coming. Doc grabs a hardside, retro-looking suitcase and throws it into the Delorean. For a similar hardside suitcase, check out the Samsonite Oyster 29″ Hardside. Unlike most luggage you find today which is upright and rolling, this suitcase has a horizontal design with a clam-sell style open and top handle. There are wheels to roll the case, but you can also easily carry it by the handle. This suitcase is designed to withstand the harshest travel conditions, although I doubt time-travel was part of the product testing process.
