Stylish Glasses Are an Eye-Catching Fall Fashion Accessory
As temperatures drop and autumn collections arrive in stores, sharp, smart accessories offer a simple way to update any look for less. In addition to handbags and jewellery, stylish eyewear has recently become the fashion-forward accessory du jour, helping trendsetters express their individuality.
With hundreds of styles to choose from, finding the perfect frames to accentuate any unique style has never been easier, more enjoyable, or more affordable. Many celebrity-inspired, high-end frames are available at prices that won’t break the bank. Whatever the occasion, glasses are an eye-catching and creative way to play up personal style.
Eyewear for men has evolved beyond the thick, plastic “geek chic” frames popularized by Hollywood A-listers and international style icons like Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr., or Canadian Cory Monteith, star of the hit television show, “Glee.” In addition to the current more modern selection of plastic frames, metal frames and combination styles help men make the ultimate fashion statement.
“Men’s eyewear designs are gravitating toward a sleeker, more modern look,” says Beverly Suliteanu, creative director and vice president of product development at Wescan Optical, a Canadian company that distributes fashionable eyewear brands such as Fysh UK, Kliik denmark, and Evatik.
“Men’s frames made with innovative materials like acetate, titanium and stainless steel are in high demand because they’re so lightweight and comfortable to wear.”

For women looking to make a bold fashion statement, eyewear is a perfect way to add a pop of color, particularly with this season’s flattering palette of jewel tones. For them as well, the “geek chic” look has evolved from plastic frame styles and now includes metal or metal-plastic combination frames featuring retro eye shapes, which pay homage to vintage fashions.
“Vibrant colors and unconventionally shaped frames are some of the hottest trends in women’s eyewear this fall,” says Suliteanu.
Hollywood style icons like Anne Hathaway, Katy Perry, and Nicole Kidman, all of whom are typically photographed “sans glasses,” have recently been spotted on the red carpet wearing retro eyewear styles such as cat-eye and rounded styles, helping elevate vintage frames to instant “it” status in women’s optical fashion.
